Vintage Crowd Funding
Thanks to the popularity of sites like Kickstarter and IndieGogo, these days “crowd funding” is all the rage. But did you know that the idea was around long before the Internet and played an important role in the history of the Statue of Liberty?
In 1885, to raise money to build the pedestal upon which Liberty stands, a range of raffles, auctions and souvenirs were offered to the public. The following is an official flyer advertising the availability of Liberty statuettes.
